Boston 1997
Tom Carrolan
The Mac is dead. Long live the Mac. Steve Jobs is back and he has orchestrated the rebirth of a company only reported dead by the media. Sure Apple has problems and the turnout by vendors and Mac folks in Boston reflected that fact.
BUT there was lots of great Mac stuff showing at the show and we have the best of it... as usual.

Digital Mavica Camera Sony Uses any old floppy disk to store pictures. Street price under $400.
Mask Pro Extensis Smart masking tool to cut out a subject from its background. Must have
Virtual PC Connectix Another amazing software concoction from the gods of Mac software. I had Windows 95 up and running on my 7300 in under 5 minutes... what to do next... play some games, I guess.
Hotline Hotline Communications Better, cheaper, and still very high end photo compostion for the professional designer but priced for the future designer. John Sculley included at no extra charge.
FreePPP & Gearbox Rockstar Studios A FileMaker database you can relate to. Those who know the old FM will not have to relearn anything but there's a portal here to a new world of information you'll like.
PCI Serial Port Cards KeySpan A suite of enhancements for the rest of us. Shortcuts included for the beginner and advanced user. In fact no one could possibly use all the features and that's a great feature in itself.
OS 8 Apple Online Mac-banking included in a good upgrade.

Quantum Books Quantum Books Too cool and probably too expensive Mac furniture from Maine. BUT you'll love it... no formica trees sacrificed in the manufacture.
Tech Girl's Internet Adventure IDG Books Worldwide The backup software hits a new generation.
MicroCenter MicroCenter of Cambridge MA
Star Festival Botticelli Interactive Build-it-yourself Internet browsers and applications aimed at teachers but hits the need of everyone with a story to tell on the web.
Trip Mate DeLorme Mapping But of course. Beyond is a must read for Robin Williams fans... who did I leave out? The Beyond refers to a quick and easy expansion of the original Typewriter matter for the person interested in good design with type: both the how and why are made simple here.
