Get ready for an epic adventure as Amazon's live-action God of War series finds its Kratos! But here's the twist: it's a familiar face from the franchise's latest installment, Ragnarök.
The God of War Saga Continues with a Familiar Face
Ryan Hurst, known for his roles in Remember the Titans and Sons of Anarchy, has been cast as Kratos. And get this, he's no stranger to the God of War universe, having portrayed Thor in the 2022 game, God of War Ragnarök. His performance was so impressive that it earned him a BAFTA nomination!
Game developer Sony Santa Monica, who knows a thing or two about Kratos, is excited to see Hurst's take on the character, joining the legendary ranks of T.C. Carson and Christopher Judge. Judge, who played Kratos in the 2018 game and its sequel, even sent his congratulations, writing, "You're gonna be great... BOI!!!" with a heart emoji.
The series will follow the Norse-based God of War games developed by Santa Monica. It tells the story of Kratos and his son, Atreus, as they journey to spread their wife and mother's ashes. Through their adventures, Kratos aims to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father humanity.
A Star-Studded Production
Frederick E.O. Toye, the Emmy-winning director of Shōgun's "Crimson Sky" episode, will direct the first two episodes. He joins showrunner Ronald D. Moore, who came on board towards the end of 2024 after the original team's departure. Moore's previous work includes the acclaimed Battlestar Galactica.
While we don't have a release date yet for the first season, Amazon has already greenlit a second season of God of War. The question now is, who will step into the role of Atreus?
This live-action adaptation promises to bring the God of War universe to life, and with such a talented cast and crew, it's sure to be an epic journey.
